Oncology

Aspen Valley Hospital has a comprehensive oncology program with two board-certified oncologists on staff and a team of nurses specially trained in chemotherapy. Nationally recognized chemotherapeutic protocols are followed, and both inpatient and outpatient services are offered. In addition, Aspen Valley Hospital works closely with other hospitals and medical centers to provide a full range of care, allowing the patient to receive services both here in Aspen and elsewhere as indicated.

Aspen Valley Hospital’s oncology program is affiliated with and provides the services of "Pathfinders" to its cancer patients. This local organization focuses on the mind/body/spiritual needs of individual patients. While the Pathfinders program can’t make the challenges of cancer go away, it can help patients rebuild hope and find unexpected joy and inspiration, even while enduring cancer treatment. To learn more about Pathfinders, go to www.pathfindersforcancer.org.

Dr. Douglas Rovira, board-certified in internal medicine with a medical oncology subspecialty, travels to Aspen from Denver on a monthly basis to administer the oncology program to local cancer patients. Oncology appointments can be made with Dr. Rovira by calling (970) 544-1391.

Dr. Ira Jaffrey, board-certified in internal medicine with a medical oncology subspecialty, also offers oncology services in the Aspen area. He can be reached by calling (970) 384-2274. Both are faculty members of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.

"I can't say enough about how caring and compassionate the oncology staff are. They are angels of mercy. There is only one Dr. Rovira, and he is the best!"
