Spine and Joint Program

Spine and Joint Program

With a staff of physicians, nurses, and physical therapists trained in the latest techniques, Aspen Valley Hospital provides state-of-the-art care for patients with spine problems and joint disease caused by arthritis.

Total joint replacement (TJR) was one of the most important advances in orthopedic surgery in the 20th century. By replacing the painful, diseased joint with an artificial joint implant, TJR has enabled millions of Americans to experience significant pain relief and a return to normal functioning.

New minimally invasive surgical techniques and recent advances in joint implant designs and materials promise to make total joint replacements last for 20 years, and 95% of knee replacements last from 15 - 20 years. This is very good news for the growing number of younger patients who are opting to have the surgery.

Tomas Pevny, MD, established the joint replacement program at Aspen Valley Hospital. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, researcher, and published author.

Thomas St. John, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon that is both a spine and joint specialist. He received subspecialty fellowship training in joint reconstruction and replacement at the renowned Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He has expertise in complex revision (repeat) joint replacement and in spine injuries and degenerative spine diseases.

"We were on vacation in Aspen, and coming from a big city, we were nervous and unsure. Your entire staff, from the person at the ER entrance to the nurse that checked us out (six days later) was amazing. I would choose Aspen Valley Hospital over any in the Chicago area where I live."
