BIO

Dr. Lisa Flora joined Aspen Valley Hospital’s emergency department in 2018. She is also a trauma site evaluator with the State of Colorado, a position which involves inspecting hospitals to ensure they are adhering to state trauma protocols. Prior to her career in medicine, Dr. Flora earned an International MBA from the University of South Carolina in 1989, graduated Beta Gamma Sigma and subsequently worked as an expatriate overseas in the cellular telecommunications business. In 1999, she earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and completed a residency in emergency medicine in 2002 at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware, where she served as chief resident. Dr. Flora has since worked across the country in a wide range of facilities from rural critical access designated facilities to Level I trauma hospitals. Outside of her hospital-based work, Dr. Flora has a long history of serving her community and country. She was a 14-year volunteer physician for the International Medical Surgical response team (IMSuRT), under DHS/FEMA. There she was awarded team member of the year. Dr. Flora has served as volunteer medical director for Christian Medical Missions in 10 countries across four continents over a 14-year span. She subsequently founded the nonprofit Aid for Medically Indigent (AiMIN) to deploy strike teams that provide free crisis care around the world. This included assisting earthquake victims in Haiti and rescuing drowning Syrian refugees off the coast of Greece. Through AiMIN, Dr. Flora also provided free acupuncture clinics for US veterans, active duty military, EMS and members of law enforcement suffering from emotional trauma. Dr. Flora is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has fulfilled all the requirements by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Flora is an avid big game hunter and loves exploring the backcountry.  She grew up visiting Aspen and Snowmass to ski every winter as a child and is grateful to join the rest of her family who has lived in Colorado for decades.
