BIO

Dr. Michael Plachta practices family medicine at Aspen Valley Primary Care. He joined the staff at Aspen Valley Hospital in 2019. Dr. Plachta studied both as an undergraduate and medical student at the University of Illinois, Chicago, finishing in 2013. He completed his residency in 2016 at the University of South Carolina, Colombia, where in his final year, Dr. Plachta won first prize for his research focused on Systemic Integrated Bedside Rounding (SIBR). The concept brings the whole medical team (attending physician/resident/social worker/floor nurse/tech) together to make rounds. The results of his research were impressive, with physicians reporting better outcomes for patients and caregivers. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is working on certification as an Aerospace Medical Examiner. Dr. Plachta was a high school sports physician throughout his residency, and later on took over for a retiring physician at a practice in Colorado Springs comprised mostly of geriatric patients. He is a strong advocate for primary care and points out that it is foundational to a healthy individual, family and community.
