Ways to Give

Your philanthropy is important here at Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation. Annual gifts are normally unrestricted and are applied to our area of greatest need. The easiest and most convenient way to make a gift to Aspen Valley Hospital is to click on the Donate button and make a gift using your credit card. It is fast and secure. It also allows you to give monthly, saving time and the expense of writing and mailing checks throughout the year.

As a hospital culture, we plan for the unexpected. One of the benefits for Aspen Valley Hospital employees is access to the Employee Emergency Financial Assistance Program (EEFAP). This fund is supported by the community and AVH employees to help when a crisis occurs. These funds are awarded as grants, not loans, and there is no expectation of repayment. The criteria for an emergency can include an unforeseen event that creates a personal economic hardship, a family crisis, a death of an immediate family member, or a short-term financial emergency when other resources have been exhausted.

If you would like to make a gift to the EEFAP, you can go to our Aspen Valley Hospital Donate page and choose EEFAP in the drop down options.

If you are an AVH employee and would like to help your teammates, you can make a contribution as a recurring deduction from your paycheck. You can also stop by the Foundation office and drop off a check.

The recipients will not know that you helped, but they will know that their community cares — as they care for our community.

Memorial gifts are expressions to remember and honor the memory of a friend or loved one. Or, gifts can be made in honor of physicians, nurses, caregivers and departments who have provided exceptional care.

Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation recognizes our donors annually in our Health Matters fall newsletter. There are additional opportunities for more lasting recognition. Please reach out to our Foundation staff for more information.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like a charitable savings account, giving you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact. You can also leave a legacy by naming Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the DAF after you pass away.

One of the best ways to save taxes in a significant way is to make a gift of appreciated stocks, mutual fund shares, or bonds to Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation.  When you donate securities that have grown in value and that you have held for more than one year, you avoid paying all of the capital gains tax that would normally be due if you sold the securities.  In addition, you are entitled to an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities.

For example, Mr. and Mrs. Green first acquired stocks for $5,000 that are now worth $25,000.  After Aspen Valley Hospital provided some life-saving care to Mr. Green, they decided they wanted to support the Foundation to help the Hospital continue to provide extraordinary care for other community members.  The Greens donated their shares directly to AVHF.  They ending up saving $4,000 in capital gains tax that they would have paid if they sold the shares directly on the market, and they also received an income tax deduction for $25,000.

You have to transfer the stocks directly to AVHF to receive these tax benefits.  To receive the delivery instructions on how to transfer securities or to a make a wire transfer, please contact Alina Pitman at 970-544-1302 or email us at avhf@aspenhospital.org.

If you wish to donate appreciated securities to fund a charitable remainder trust to pay you lifetime income, save taxes, and benefit Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation, please contact Jan Jennings at 970-544-1340 or email Jan at jjennings@aspenhospital.org.
