Individual Health Insurance Marketplace Deadlines Fast Approaching

Two dates to consider for people who buy insurance through Connect for Health Colorado

Aspen Valley Hospital urges individuals and families who buy their health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado to keep two deadlines in mind as they consider healthcare coverage for the coming year.

  • To begin coverage on January 1, 2024, the deadline to select a plan is December 15.
  • To begin coverage on February 1, 2024, the deadline is January 15.

Between 8-10% of people purchase their own health insurance on the individual marketplace, primarily through the Connect for Health Colorado website. The purchasing period in Colorado and across the country is from November 1 – January 15.

The Connect for Health Colorado website lists available plans and calculates monthly premiums based on each person or family’s income. If you need help navigating the website or understanding information about the plans, call 855-873-6166 and a trained assister will guide you through the selection process. Please note that Connect for Health Colorado assisters are not allowed to make recommendations about plans.

The state of Colorado created the Connect for Health Colorado online health insurance marketplace as part of the Affordable Care Act, to help people who are not covered by an employer’s health insurance plan, or by Medicaid or Medicare, the two major government insurance programs.

Valley Health Alliance Executive Director Chris McDowell urges people to determine the total cost of care for the plans they are considering. This includes both premiums and out-of-pocket expenses, which vary from plan to plan. Each insurance plan listed on the website provides information to help people understand their premiums and out-of-pocket expenses.

“It’s important for people to review their options and find a plan that fits their individual and family needs,” says McDowell. “Connect for Health Colorado offers great service in helping people review and understand the different plans.”

The Valley Health Alliance (VHA) is a regional organization made up of healthcare providers and large employers between Aspen and Parachute. Aspen Valley Hospital has been a member since the VHA was founded in 2014. The VHA is focused on improving primary care services and lowering health insurance costs throughout the region.
