Dr. Melissa Somers is an otolaryngologist who joined the staff at Aspen Valley Hospital in 2023. Dr. Somers is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and has been practicing ear, nose and throat medicine since 2011, after completing her residency in otolaryngology at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. She studied medicine at the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Before coming to Aspen, she spent 12 years practicing at a private practice in northern Michigan. She was Chief of Surgery for two years at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, where she also served on the medical executive committee and the quality control committee. She had privileges at three other hospitals in northern Michigan. In 2015, Dr. Somers completed a fellowship with the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, advancing her expertise in treating allergies. She also served on the Board of Audiology for the State of Michigan. Dr. Somers treats both adults and children and has a passion for all aspects of her specialty, particularly working with patients with allergies and sinus issues, head and neck cancers, laryngology and pediatric concerns. She was drawn to work at Aspen Valley Hospital by its investment in supporting the health of all patients. She and her family love the outdoors, from skiing in the winter to hiking, paddle boarding and biking in the summer. She appreciates the beauty of Aspen and that it is a tight-knit community with a strong commitment to sustainability, environmental consciousness and philanthropy.
