VIRTUAL VISITS FROM THE SAFETY OF YOUR HOME

Telemedicine

Virtual Visits With Your Physician

See a doctor from the comfort and safety of your own home. Aspen Valley Hospital offers telemedicine or “virtual visits” for patients in our Network of Care.

Telemedicine provides a safe and convenient way for you to talk with your healthcare provider without having to make the trip into the hospital or clinic from the region’s more remote locations. It also works well for patients who are more susceptible to COVID-19 or common cold and flu seasons, or who suffer from mobility issues that make travel and doctor visits difficult.

If you are experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms and do not require emergency care, a virtual visit may be a good option for you.

How does it work?

  • First, patients need to make a telemedicine appointment with their healthcare provider. See below for a list of the clinics offering virtual visits.
  • Second, visits can take place through Aspen Valley Hospital’s Patient Portal or through Zoom. The platform used depends on the clinic or specialist you are seeing. If you are a patient of Aspen Valley Primary Care, Cardiology, Ophthalmology or Otorlaryngology (ENT), you must be enrolled in Aspen Valley Hospital’s Patient Portal.
  • If you are using the Patient Portal, you will need to download the Healow app (from the Apple Store for Google Play) onto a smartphone or computer. If you are using Zoom, you will need to download that app onto your smartphone or computer.

From there, a telemedicine appointment proceeds like a normal visit with your physician, nurse practitioner or physical therapist. The Healow app allows patients to confidentially interface with healthcare providers using their smartphone or computer from the privacy and convenience of their home.

Physician Perspective

Any patient of a participating provider can schedule a virtual appointment. As Dr. Joshua Seymour, Medical Director at After-Hours Medical Care in Basalt, discusses in a recent Aspen Valley Hospital Telemedicine Spotlight, “With our telemedicine practice up and running, we are able to serve some of our patients’ primary care needs and safely talk to people who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.”

"We are a rural, critical-access hospital, and our community is separated by mountains, forest fires and viruses. With telemedicine, we can still have appointments even if patients can't get here in person."
- Dr. Heather Murphy
