Partners in Health | A Message from CEO Dave Ressler

by Aspen Valley Hospital

March 5, 2024

My son gets weak in the knees at the mere sight of blood, and particularly his own. He’s not alone, either. It is a common reaction at the sight of blood to feel queasy, perhaps nauseous, and for some, to even faint. The fear is real among many members of our community, and patients at Aspen Valley Hospital. Our healthcare professionals recognize and respect these common fears, and we work hard to assuage our patients so they can comfortably receive the care they need. Fortunately, modern healthcare has provided numerous advancements and technologies that make receiving medical care much less scary, particularly when in the hands of caring and competent healthcare professionals.

One of the most serious conditions that we treat, however, may not involve any visible blood of any kind. Traumatic brain injuries are largely invisible to the casual observer. A skier or a cyclist can rise from a crash, appearing to have not sustained any injuries, and yet require further diagnosis and treatment. This is because the brain can be injured within an intact skull and have serious medical implications. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and we provide an expert overview of brain injuries, their symptoms, treatments, and efforts around education and prevention in this month’s edition. I hope you will take the time to read this information and not hesitate to seek diagnosis and treatment for yourself, or recommend it to others, when you knock your noggin.

Our mission at Aspen Valley Hospital is to provide extraordinary healthcare in an environment of excellence, compassion and trust. Given our patient experience scores, among the best in the country, I am proud to say we are delivering on our promise. We are also dedicated as an organization to providing a network of care focused on keeping our community among the healthiest in the nation. This includes services provided at Aspen Valley Primary Care’s two locations—at our Aspen Valley Hospital campus in Aspen and in Basalt (which is being remodeled to better serve you). In addition, we hope you will attend our inaugural Healthy Journey Symposium on March 8 and 9 at The Aspen Institute campus. Learn more in this e-edition about the impressive line-up of experts, including our own physicians, who will discuss the future of health and longevity medicine and the role that Aspen Valley Hospital plays.

If you do find your way to our AVH campus, you will notice we have installed fencing around the front of the Hospital in preparation for completing the fourth and final phase of our facility’s expansion to meet the needs of our community. Our patients will experience much improved convenience and wayfinding along with a centrally located registration area once construction is complete. This expansion will allow us to continue to deliver the high-quality and comprehensive healthcare you deserve for generations to come. You can read about the anticipated construction impacts in this month’s edition as well.

Here’s to your good health!

Dave
